Meals on Wheels in Lane County, Oregon, are provided by one of two organizations, depending on geographic location. Senior & Disability Services (Senior Meals Program) delivers Meals on Wheels in Springfield, Veneta, Florence, Junction City, Creswell, Cottage Grove and Oakridge, Oregon. FOOD for Lane County delivers Meals on Wheels in Eugene, Oregon. Both organizations coordinate to secure charitable donations and recruit volunteers to deliver healthy meals prepared in a central kitchen provided by Senior & Disability Services.
Who do we serve?
Meals on Wheels has worked tirelessly for four decades in Lane County to assist older adults in the greatest social and economic need, enabling them to live healthier, safer, independent lives in their own homes—where they want to be. Our typical client is a single 75-year-old woman, living alone with limited or no mobility, suffering from multiple chronic diseases, and reliant on several medications daily. She is far more vulnerable than comparably aged Americans. Meals on Wheels provides her a lifeline, which regularly delivers a nutritious meal, a friendly visit and a safety check. This is often the only visitor and complete meal she will have all day.
If you are wondering whether the Meals on Wheels program could help you or your loved one, please visit our Get Help page to learn more about our services, and call us to set up an interview and in-home consultation.
Who funds Meals on Wheels?
Funding for Meals on Wheels comes from the Older Americans Act and other reimbursements, Medicaid, Oregon Project Independence, Lane County Intergovernmental Human Service Funds, United Way, and local community members like you. Meals on Wheels participants donate what they can for their meals. Each year, as public funds decline and requests for services increase, the importance of charitable gifts grows.
Charitable gifts to Meals on Wheels are essential and most appreciated. Please donate today. Your gift benefits clients of both Senior & Disability Services and FOOD for Lane County.
