Meals on Wheels is more than a meal—it’s a lifeline. Your donation not only provides a hot, nutritiously balanced meal, it also provides a friendly connection and consistent safety check for the homebound, older members of our community. Meals on Wheels is essential to help people live independently as long as possible.
Why should you donate to Meals on Wheels of Lane County, Oregon?
It works for our community: Meals on Wheels ensures that our aging and vulnerable neighbors and loved ones can continue to live in their own homes, right where they want to be.
It works for tax payers: Investing in Meals on Wheels saves taxpayer dollars because we enable our participants to remain at home longer. The healthy meals and safety checks help control increased healthcare expenses incurred through Medicare and Medicaid shorten injury and illness recovery times and reduce premature placement in care facilities. Meals on Wheels can be delivered five days a week for an entire year for less than the cost of one day in the hospital or 14 days in an assisted living facility.
Who funds Meals on Wheels?
The need for meals is greater than we are able to meet with current available funding, and the population older than 75 years continues to grow. Federal, state and local government funding covers only 70% of the total cost to provide services in our community. Charitable giving is essential to meet the need and stretch the declining public funding.
Our homebound, older neighbors need Meals on Wheels and Meals on Wheels needs you! Please make a charitable donation to Meals on Wheels today. Gifts of any amount help us continue to provide this critically important service in our community.
